And all the time, we’re making judgements about whether stuff is good or bad. And that’s natural. It’s how we survive in the world.
But often we get lazy and make those judgments out of habit.
Mindfulness involves suspending that judgement for a moment and really paying attention to what all of our senses are telling us right now.
This gives us a clearer perspective from which to make our judgement, and we’re often surprised by what we discover. Our thinking is clearer, less clouded by pre-conceived ideas.
We know from extensive research that Mindfulness Meditation significantly reduces stress and improves mood, well-being and quality of life. Not only that,Mindfulness can also significantly improve concentration.
Mindfulness has also been shown to improve several physical ailments too, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome and some hormonal issues.
For most of us, from the moment we wake up in the morning we’re thinking about the future or the past. Stuff like:
- What will I wear?
- What will I have for breakfast?
- What’s on my To Do list today?
Or
- Loved that movie I watched last night.
- Can’t believe what my boss said to me yesterday.
- Didn’t think much of that restaurant where we ate lunch.
